Ergotherapy belongs to the paramedical sector, and has as an object the restoration of psychiatric disorders. Through specially selected activities, it helps patients achieve the maximum level of functionality and independence in all areas of their lives and to regain skills lost or neglected because of the disease.  By using everyday activities of life, work and play; it supports the functionality, promotes growth and prevents the exclusion of cognitive and social skills.

The Ergotherapist’s  role is to mobilize the patient by demonstrating sensitivity and concern over the patient’s needs and to support and encourage him to get involved in the therapeutic process by aiming at improving his quality of life. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team each patient gets evaluated in order to create a customized therapeutic plan depending on the needs and difficulties of each case. The patient receives the approval of the therapist, and manages,  under the therapist’s guidance,  to gradually build on to believe in himself, to trust and to create friendly ties with other members of the group.

Ergotherapy provides the following activities:

• Painting

• Crafts (collage, plaster, clay, seasonal items, etc.)

• Reading and writing texts

• Publication of magazines

• Projection of films and documentaries

• Hygiene and self autonomy activities

• Recreational activities with board games
